The word "Warrambui" is a hybrid, formed by the blending of two words from the language of the Ngunawal people who originally inhabited the area in and around Canberra and Yass. The two words mean "youth climb".
"warrumbul" meaning youth and "bui-i" meaning climb.
This name
- is a reminder of the Aboriginal people who were the original inhabitants and "caretakers" of the land (a number of them still live in the area)
- indicates that the property is a hilly one and a good deal of climbing is necessary if you wish to explore it!
- is a symbolic expression of the desire of young people in particular, to move ever upwards and onwards in their relationship with their Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ, with their fellow believers and members of the general community. (The property was originally established by the youth of the NSW District of the Lutheran Church to be a place whose major focus would be ministering to young people)
